Heuer, founded by Edouard Heuer in 1860 in St.Imier, Switzerland, has been an legendary chronograph manufacturer with a long tradition of precision timekeeping. Born on the racetrack in 1963, the Carrera reference 2447 was named after the legendary "Carrera Panamericana" race in Mexico. Jack Heuer, the great-grandson of the founder, was inspired by the race and sought to create a chronograph that offered high legibility and could withstand the rigors of car racing. The result was a chronograph that displayed only the most essential information, with simple baton indices and large, easy-to-read sub-dials. It was clear, uncluttered and the robust case sat comfortably on a driver’s wrist to handle the demands of the racetrack.
This particular Carrera, Reference 2447T (T for Tachymeter), powered by the robust and reliable Valjoux 72, was manufactured circa 1968, showcasing a more dynamic touch apart from others. This variant features a two-toned silver dial and the tachymeter scale is printed with racing red that pops out beautifully. This scale allows the wearer to measure speed based on travel time or measure distance based on speed. The dial is “SWISS” marked inside the hours sub register at 6 o'clock and having the letter “T” indicating the use of tritium for the luminous materials. Preserved in great condition, this Heuer Carrera is elegant in its simplicity, wears well on a modern wrist and holds a deep nostalgic value to the golden age of motorsports.
